NYX HIGHLIGHT & CONTOUR PRO PALETTE Review + Before and After Photos

Since my all-time-favorite contour kit from Anastasia Beverly Hills started to show holes in pans and ordering it to EU can be pricey, I decided to look for a more budget friendly option. Most of you have already tried NYX HIGHLIGHT & CONTOUR PRO PALETTE and I would love to hear your opinion about it in comment section, but for those who hasn't tried it yet, hopefully this review will come handy when choosing your next contouring products.
NYX Pro Palette comes in a plastic packaging with clear top, and the best thing is that it is so easy to change the pans once they are empty, you can see small 'holes' next to each pan in photo above.
It holds 2 matte highlighting shades, 2 shimmery/glowy highlighting shades, and 4 medium/dark shades from which 2 are with slight glow. The color options are very versatile and will work for most skin shades, I am mostly using the two middle light shades and two middle bottom shades as my skin tone is fair.

  • TOP: Ice Queen; Soft Light; Cream; Nectar
  • BOTTOM: Tan; Toffee; Sculpt; Hollow
The shimmery highlighting shades (Ice Queen and Nectar) are very modest and translucent, so they work great as everyday highlight but are not the most long lasting ones as well. Nectar barely shows on skin and has a very natural glow while Ice Queen is more shimmery, cool highlight.
The matte highlighting shades are more pigmented, finely milled and easy to apply. I use yellow shade (Cream) in center of face to correct any redness peeking through my foundation and also under eyes to correct blue circles. The lightest shade (Soft Light) I will apply on my jaw line and other areas I want to highlight, like, cheek bones, upper lip, between brows. It is easy to correct any unevenness that might be caused by darker shades by blending the light matte shades.
Bottom part of dark shades varies from more grey to red undertones in brown. The center two (Toffee and Sculpt) are perfect for contouring when mixed together. Applied separately Toffee is too grayish and makeup can look a bit muddy. The outer two (Tan and Hollow) are meant for more tan skins and as they carry the reddish undertone so I will put them to proper use after couple of months. I like how none of the darker shades has shiny or shimmery finish and they look natural on skin and can be buildable.
Below you can see before and after photos of contouring. I have prepared my face with only foundation and no concealer on top of it.

As you can see finish is very natural, without any patchiness, but you will have to be careful and build up the shade step by step or else if not blended well it can look muddy. If I have to compare NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette with ABH contour kit or TARTE contouring powders, TARTE is the easiest one and most full-proof but NYX needs to be blended in skin the most.
Nevertheless, NYX is an amazing option for everyone who is looking for more affordable product option and I would happily suggest it to everyone who loves makeup artistry. The palette can be handy for professional artists because of a wide range of shades, suitable for almost all skin tones.
